Plastic Energy is a world leading chemical recycling company with a global mission to end plastic waste. We stand at the forefront of innovation, with a patented and proven process to convert end-of-life plastic waste into feedstock, which replaces fossil oils in the production of clean, food-grade plastics.
Plastic Energy is headquartered in London, with offices in Seville, Singapore and Malaysia. We currently own and operate two chemical recycling plants in Spain, with further construction projects underway in Europe and Asia. You would be joining a dynamic company within a rapidly growing technology sector. It’s an exciting time to join Plastic Energy as we embark on and expand our global portfolio of new projects.
We are now seeking a Head of Policy, to be based at our headquarters in London, where you would be joining our UK team of around 85 people. The role will report to the Chief Sustainability Officer who is part of the company’s Executive Committee.
We’re looking for a candidate who has strong policy and stakeholder engagement experience, ideally having acted in a stand-alone capacity, who enjoys a generalist role, and is comfortable with public speaking. This is a busy and challenging position in a friendly and fast-moving business, which will give you the opportunity to work across departments and regions, and to continue developing our processes and strategy to support the evolution of our company. It would suit an adaptable, approachable and diligent individual who would like to provide meaningful input into an emerging cleantech sector, and who is comfortable taking responsibility for their workload and its outcomes.
Role and Responsibilities
The role is extensive and varied, and the below is not intended to provide an exhaustive list of duties but will give you some insight into the role.
You will:
- Lead the advocacy on relevant sustainability issues for Plastic Energy through institutional engagement and public consultations: 1) at the EU level 2) in key European countries including the Netherlands, France, Germany, Spain, UK
- Collaborate/advocate/align on policy with companies and associations representing the value-chain of plastics on key issues for Plastic Energy: recycling, recycling rates, recycled content, food-contact material, mass-balance, end-of-waste, including supporting the policy work of Chemical Recycling Europe, an industry association of which Plastic Energy is a founding member
- Proactively participate in stakeholder consortiums and associations to represent Plastic Energy and the chemical recycling industry through policy/position papers, institutional engagement
- Monitor and provide regular updates on the policy environment relevant for the plastics value chain and the circular economy to the company’s Executive Committee and Board
- Represent Plastic Energy at industry conferences and events, by delivering keynote presentations and participating in panel discussions
Requirements
- Master level or equivalent in policy, political science, sustainability, business
- Proven experience in policy and stakeholder engagement related to plastics, the circular economy, energy, climate or other relevant field
- Familiarity with EU institutions and policy processes at the EU level
- Entrepreneurial spirit with flexibility in a fast-paced environment
- Enthusiastic about sustainability issues
- Ability to work independently and be a collaborative team player
- Experience in public speaking
- Comfortable with monthly travel to Brussels or elsewhere in Europe for stakeholder meetings/conferences
- Fluency in English (an additional European language such as Spanish or French would be an advantage)
