The Industrial Designer is responsible for taking 3D renderings from concept to production, specializing in permanent, semi-permanent display solutions. They ensure that designs are high-quality, engineered to be cost-competitive, and technically sound for retail environments, working closely with production teams. Requiring deep knowledge of sheet metal, wire forming, plastics (vacuum forming/injection molding), and wood fabrication.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Design & Engineering: Translate 3D renderings into actionable technical drawings, ensuring structural integrity and manufacturability for permanent fixtures (e.g., metal, wood, acrylic, injection molded plastic) for both domestic and overseas manufacturing. With full detailed bill of materials.
- Material Optimization: Select and optimize materials based on customer requirements, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Prototyping & Quality Control: Work with the production team to produce, review, and test prototypes, evaluating "first-off" samples.
- Documentation: Create detailed assembly instructions and technical documentation for final production displays.
- Collaboration: Work with Account Managers and production to ensure designs meet customer expectations, timelines, and budgetary constraints.
- Technology Application: Utilize 3D software (e.g., SolidWorks, 3D Studio Max) to create renderings and technical packages.
Job Requirements:
Education:
- A.S., B.S., or BFA in Industrial Design or Mechanical Engineer – Or equivalent industry experience. Recent and ongoing continued education with SolidWorks updates.
Experience:
- 10-15 plus years of experience in POP display engineering, specifically with permanent displays (steel, injection molding, or millwork)
- Portfolio which demonstrates POP driven concepts utilizing permanent materials.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Experience utilizing 3D software (SolidWorks and/or Fusion)
- Excellent critical thinking skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of permanent materials
- Ability to juggle multiple deadlines.
- Able to work both independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Familiar with Adobe Creative Suite
- Fluency in MS Office.
